Although homicides are down 30% from their peak in 1994, the crime rate is still 1.7 times higher than the national average, and local residents are three times more likely to become victims of violent crime than people in other US cities.
In an all-out effort to eliminate crime in Buffalo, the Church of Scientology Buffalo has teamed up with the New Life Harvest Ministries as partners in the "Stop the Violence" initiative.
Thousands of copies of a special edition of The Way to Happiness, provided by Soul legend, Isaac Hayes, have been distributed.
The Way to Happiness is a non-religious moral code based entirely on common sense. This booklet is part of the successful Criminon program, which has a 60 to 80% reduction in recidivism rate among its graduates.
All summer long the Scientology Volunteer Ministers have been setting up their big yellow tent in neighborhoods around town, where they also provide one-on-one help, seminars and books to help Buffalonians improve conditions in their lives.
